What can I do to help stop the spread of invasive species?

Awareness is our best tool for preventing the spread of invasive species. Learn about what species are or may become invasive in your area so you know not to purchase or move those organisms into your area.

Talk to your friends and neighbors about invasive plants commonly used in gardening and suggest native plants instead.

Instead of releasing pets such as fish and turtles into the environment, return them to a pet store or give them to a friend or neighbor. Learn more at www.Habitattitude.net.

Clean boots before and after hiking, and clean and dry

Red-Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)

watercraft before moving to a new area. Learn more at www.ProtectYourWaters.net.

Don't move firewood long distances for camping or home-heating purposes. You just might be transporting an invasive insect or disease. Learn more at www.DontMoveFirewood.org.
